Reservoir engineering

The main tasks of reservoir management are:

  • Determining the hydrocarbon volumes and the recoverable reserves of oil and gas reservoirs
  • Optimizing the recovery from these reservoirs
  • Monitoring of productive fields and underground gas storages  and preparing field development concepts and production plans

A variety of technical methods and tools are available to reservoir engineers to achieve these objectives.

Integrated Reservoir Modelling

The interaction of geophysics, geology, and reservoir engineering is required for integrated reservoir modeling.

Classic reservoir engineering methods

Volumetrics combined with statistical methods (Monte Carlo simulation) allow rough estimates of the reservoir volume.

Structure of an oil reservoir

In general, hydrocarbons are not formed in the rock formations from which they are produced (except for biogenous gas).
